We have only been able to locate 2 manufacturers of original style Corvair fuel pumps. Since 1973, we have consistently seen 1-2% of new fuel
pumps fail. From about 1998-2001, the failure rate went to nearly 10%! We finally convinced the pump manufacturer that they were using the
wrong diaphragm material! Currently, about 1%-2% of the fuel pumps continue to have problems. The problems have usually been seepage of
fuel or complete failure resulting in no fuel or a rupture of the main diaphragm. The main supplier (C3403) is now using "antiwicking" diaphragms
& has returned to all 3 diaphragms having fabric reinforced material. We've also added a pump from a 2nd supplier (C3403A). Our experience
with both is nearly identical. A spare pump is always a good idea. —See page 66 for Electric Pumps—
Rod Note
196061 style pump must use the 196061 pump rod.
Most 196061 already have 196269 pumps.
196269 style pump can be used on 196061 but the 196269
pump rod must then be used.

Pump Hints! Pump Hints! Pump Hints! Pump Hints! Pump Hints! Pump Hints!
1) When installing pump, take extra care that retaining bolt is lined up EXACTLY with the hole! Make
snug, but DO NOT over tighten, snug locking nut.
2) If you have seepage, slightly tighten the top screws. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN.
3) If you have a problem, please check with us.
Why don't you put the part numbers on the diagrams?
We considered doing this years ago, but decided against it for several reasons.
1. Many parts do NOT fit all models and years. It would get confusing to tr y to indicate that next to the part number in the diagram.
2. Many of our part numbers have additional information that we want to be sure the customer knows before ordering. It may take longer,
but you get the parts you need.
